18th Aug 2017
20th Aug 2017
The beautiful city of Riga, capital of Latvia and heart of the Baltic States is located on the shores of the Daugava River where it flows into the Baltic Sea. In 1282 Riga became the member for the Hanseatic League. Ever since Riga has been a dynamic port city on the trade route between the Western Europe and the East. The Riga Bay is a gentle sailing area inviting to enjoy long summer days and warm nights on endless sunny beaches.
The annual Sail Riga Festival offers a colourful culture and entertainment program in the streets and parks, on the Daugava River and in the sky above the city. The festival programme will offer maritime flair and a large variety of activities. Seamen’s craftsmanship and sail trips on board of lovely restored traditional ships and exhibitions looking back into culture and maritime history of Baltic cities and regions. Sailors and visitors from all over the world are warmly welcomed to enjoy the fascinating atmosphere of the seaside locations, impressive coastlines, beautiful beaches, imposing brick churches and historical buildings in the centre of the cities. Take a tour on one of the spectacular ships, wander through the festival area, tasting delicious food and being entertained by street performers, learn about the maritime heritage of Riga and watch in awe at the spectacular firework display over the port. This is a summer festival not to be missed.
Did You Know? Many of these vessels offer an experience known as ‘Sail Training’, a course in personal and professional development championed by youth organisations, multi-national corporations and even navies from across the world.
